TAKING on a Great Wall of China cycling challenge is no mean feat.

But for one dedicated businesswoman who has beaten breast cancer, anything is possible with the right support.

Annette Newton, whose mum and sister were both affected by ovarian cancer, is raising money for cancer charities after she got the all-clear from the disease.

She will cycle alongside the Great Wall of China as part of a women-only team for the fourth Women v Cancer challenge.

“After having chemotherapy and radiotherapy last September as part of my treatment by an amazing team of people, I wanted to help support the remarkable work they do in all areas of cancer support, research and information,” said the 49-year-old.

Annette, from Lowton, will take the time out of running her own company, JPS Design and Print on Railway Road in Leigh, to complete the 450km challenge in September for five days.

But before then she needs to raise a minimum of £3,500 for Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action and is holding a school reunion for Leigh CE High School to help her on her way.

“I thought holding a school reunion would be a great way for everyone to have a catch up, enjoy time with old friends and hopefully raise some money,” she said.

“A big thank you to Michelle Hangyal who has organised the night. She has worked really hard and I hope the event is well supported.”

The event is being held on Saturday, May 24 at Leigh Labour Club on Abbey Street.

Tickets are £4, which will be donated to the charities and can be purchased by contacting Michelle at facebook.com/ michelle.hangyal or call JPS Design and Print on 01942 671424.
