LEIGH MP Andy Burnham has been telling students his vision for the future of health and social care.

The Shadow Secretary of State for Health visited Winstanley College to deliver a keynote speech at the college’s medics, dentists and vets (MDV) day.

He said: ‘’I hoped to get across the importance of the NHS and how lucky these future medics are to have the chance to work for the best healthcare service in the world. “As a local MP I am very proud of what the college does to support these students in raising aspirations and helping them to achieve their career ambitions.”

The day also included practical workshops in first aid for the students studying to be medics, dentists and vets as well as advice and guidance from former students who are now studying for degrees within the professions.

Biology teacher, Dave Woods, who coordinates the MDV programme, said: “I think the fantastic turnout and attitude of our students instils confidence that our future health is in safe hands.”
