HUNDREDS of primary school pupils have been getting a taste of life at Lowton CE High School.

Nearly 400 year six pupils spent a day at the high school for the annual Lowton Educational Activities Day (LEAD).

The day is designed to make the transition from primary to secondary school as easy as possible by giving pupils hands-on experience of their potential new school.

Newly appointed head teacher Julian Pollard said: “At Lowton we realise that the move from primary to secondary school is an extremely important time for a child.

“Many will see their primary school as home, so moving on is a big change.

“It can be quite a daunting prospect for some, which is why we want to make the process as easy and as comfortable as possible for the children.”

Pupils were given the chance to try new sports such as fencing, archery and rock climbing while food fans were treated to a taste of home economics with a bake off-style competition.

The school is holding open mornings on Wednesday and Thursday, October 1 and 2, from 8.45am.

Prospective parents can also book a personal tour of the school by calling Margaret Harrison on 01942 767040.
