A CHARITY football match is being held to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Two teams will battle it out for a trophy which bears the name of David ‘Sodge’ Surridge, from Leigh, who was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour last year and has been receiveding treatment for the past six months.
The teams will be made up of past, present and novice league players and David’s friends and family.
Organiser Keith Pitchford said: “The idea was the brainchild of David Needham.
“As a friend of Sodge’s and wanting to help, he quickly threw the game together on a Sunday a year ago and raised a considerable amount of money for the family at a difficult time.”
The game will be played at Leigh Harriers’ Madeley Park stadium on Sunday, November 9, where there will also be a raffle and refreshments on sale. The gates will open at 11.30am and entry is £1. with kKick-off and 12.30pm.
