A LITTLE girl with a big heart has made a donation to the homeless — after raising money in a charity run.

Five-year-old Diaz Condor raised £235 for the Caring Kitchen in Leigh after running the Manchester 2k.

Her mum Amber Burgess, aged 34, of Westleigh, said: "She took part in the 2k Manchester run with her dad and we discussed what charity she wanted to give the money to. I thought she would chose a children's charity because when she sees the adverts on the television she says she wants to help.

"But I took her into the kitchen at Christmas and I think that must have stuck in her head and she said she wanted to do it for them.

"I'm very proud of her, I do a lot for charity and I think it is good because it instils good values in her. Straight after the run she said she wanted to do another and raise more money."

The Caring Kitchen, based in Leigh Pentecostal Church in Ullswater Street, is a service for the homeless. The facility, which relies entirely on donations, opens on Monday and Friday and provides the homeless and people struggling with benefit sanctions with food and shelter.

Kind-hearted Diaz decided she wanted to donate the money to the cause after her mum, who runs a church group, introduced her to the service at Christmas.

Caring Kitchen volunteer Anne Crompton said: "To see a four year old girl wanting to give money to help the homeless is really quite heart-warming and I think it pulled at a lot of people's heart strings."

Following her donation Diaz's was given a big heart award trophy and also a sweet hamper by the service on behalf of the homeless.
