A NEW housing development has been officially launched in Leigh by MP Andy Burnham and the Mayor, Councillor Susan Loudon.
Pennington Wharf, on the Leeds and Liverpool canal will con consist of almost 500 new two, three and four bedroom homes.
The new development was launched by Plumlife, an affordable home ownership company. It has won an environmental award for its sustainable design.
Mr Burnham said: “The regeneration of the Plank Lane area will completely transform this former coalfield community and help address its environmental legacy. It will provide affordable and sustainable housing to rent or own, which is a real vision of mine, giving aspiring first time buyers a clear route onto the property ladder."
Councillor Loudon, said: “The launch of Pennington Wharf heralds much needed good quality housing in Leigh.
"The further planned community developments will mean job creation in the area and the construction of an exciting new community.”
