MOTORISTS are urged to leave more time for their journeys as repair work has started on the Golborne railway bridge on the A580 East Lancashire Road and is expected to last ten weeks.
A recent inspection revealed sections of concrete were cracked due to water damage.
The road over the bridge is a two-lane dual carriageway and the works will be phased on the eastbound carriageway and westbound carriageway separately, meaning there will be a temporary contra-flow traffic system. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use the bridge during the work.
The bridge was built in 1929 and carries the East Lancashire Road (A580) over the West Coast Main Railway line between London and Glasgow.
