MOTORISTS in Leigh found the sauce of all their frustration this morning was the spilling of 22 tonnes of ketchup near Wigan.
The HGV overturned on the westbound A580 East Lancs Road in Astley near Wigan at just before the rush hour at 5am.
Bottles and bottles of the tomato condiment smashed onto the carriageway, blocking all three lanes and causing tailbacks.
Following a clean-up by the Highways Agency – which may have involved a giant slice of toast crust - the road reopened at 8.40am.
People took to Twitter to test their best jokes and puns.
