PUPILS at Atherton St George’s CE Primary School were among 140 students to learn about the importance of being energy efficient.

Students across the borough have learnt how to become a carbon cutter to help save energy at school and also in their own homes.

National Energy Action delivered the workshops, which aimed to capture the imagination of the children through interactive drama and science workshops.

Each workshop worked up to giving children the opportunity to create and design their own solar powered cars, which ended in an exciting race.

Cllr Joanne Platt, portfolio holder for children and young people at the council, said: “It is important to take the message about keeping homes warm to a young audience.

“We know children will take these fun workshop ideas home with them and pass on their knowledge to their families and remember them as they grow up and have homes of their own.”

The scheme is part of the Affordable Warmth Access Referral Mechanism (AWARM) programme enabling households to access a number of services to help them to stay safe and warm in their own home.

This includes energy advice, improving the energy efficiency of their home and maximising their household income.
