THE drivers who ignored an unconscious woman lying in the road before she was ran over and killed have been widely condemned.

Mum-of-two Louise Wolstenholme, 52, was hit by a Ford Focus at 10pm in Bolton on Sunday, January 31, after she tripped and banged her head after stumbling off the pavement.

Tinashe Irvine Chikoto, 22, of Devonshire Road, Atherton, was charged with causing her death by dangerous driving and six other offences at Bolton Magistrates Court last Wednesday and has been remanded to appear at Bolton Crown Court on March 2.

Police have said that footage from CCTV cameras before the incident shows that a bus and two cars manoeuvred around her without stopping as the Bolton hair salon boss lay on the ground.

They did not notify the police that a woman was lying in the road and their actions have been widely criticised in both the national press, social media and on the Journal's Facebook page.

Rob Graham asked: "Why didn't the bus or the car driver stop and help her instead of driving around her?"

Angela Dawes posted: "Absolutely disgusted no-one stopped to help and drove round her."

PC Neil Pennington, of the Greater Manchester Police, said: "We urge those drivers to contact us."

Chikoto's list of charges include failing to stop at the scene of a collision, failing to report a collision, causing death whilst unlicensed, driving a motor vehicle without insurance, driving whilst unfit through drugs and perverting the course of justice.

He did not enter a plea at Bolton Magistrates Court.
