A LEGENDARY Leigh band will be raising funds for Wigan and Leigh Hospice with their annual charity performance.

Popular 60s band The Pressmen have performed an annual charity bash every year since reforming in 1997. This year’s event will be held at Leigh Miners Welfare Institute, with support from Leigh DJ Bobby Dee, on Saturday, May 7.

Gary Woodward, who helps the band set up the annual fundraising gigs, said: “The group have always been popular in their home town of Leigh and it promises to be a great night which will hopefully raise much-needed funds for the hospice.”

The band formed in 1962 and appeared at famous venues including The Cavern in Liverpool.

The original band members were Harold Taylor, Kenny White, Ronnie Stevens, Jim Yates, Bernard Southern and Eric White, who went by the name The Silhouettes.

In late 1962 Malc Hurst and Tony Owens joined and they were renamed The Pressmen.
