A LEIGH pensioner is ‘disgusted’ after a dog owner allowed their pet to foul on her late husband’s grave.

Kath Dainton, 77 was heartbroken after making the shocking discovery when she visited her husband Terry’s grave at Leigh Cemetery on what would have been their diamond wedding anniversary.

She said: “I went on what was already a sad day for me, but to see the muck just left on his grave was disgusting and disrespectful.

“I lost Terry eight years ago and I would have loved to have seen him on our special day but instead of getting a special card from the Queen we got a calling card from a dog.”

Kath, of Woodley Grove, who has two children and two grandchildren, added the situation was made worse because it is a family grave. She said: “It’s unbelievable that someone would allow that to happen, I clean up after my dog and they are not supposed to be in the cemetery unless they are on a lead.

“We have had flowers taken in the past and also a wreath stolen from my brother’s grave but this was really upsetting.”

Karl Battersby, director of economy and environment at Wigan Council, said: “Irresponsible dog owners who let their dogs foul without cleaning up are a major nuisance to communities and pose a risk to the health of people.

“We are getting tougher on perpetrators and will be carrying out more enforcement in hotspot areas to catch and prosecute offenders.”
