THIS week we look back to the 1930s with a photograph of Market Street in Leigh.
It shows a policeman managing the roads, as traffic lights were not used until the late 1930s.
A number six tram can be seen in the centre of the photograph.
The double-decker with a covered top was on its way to Bolton.
On the left is a range of shops, with the Alexandre store in the middle.
The background is very dusty, which could be due to the demolition of Boots Cash Chemist on the corner of Lord Street.
It was demolished in 1936.
If you have a photograph you would like us to use in Look back at Leigh, send it to newsdesk@leighjournal.co.uk with your name, address and a daytime telephone number, plus a description of when the picture was taken and details of what it shows.
