A GROUP of residents on Wenlock Road in Pennington refused to let bad weather stop them from celebrating the Queen's official 90th birthday.
After being forced to cancel the original street party they organised due to heavy rain, they held belated birthday celebrations in honour of Her Majesty on Saturday.
The street party boasted a range of fun activities, including a design the best crown and pin the tail on the corgi competitions and a raffle which raised £63 for equipment at a school in Africa.
Liz and Dave Thompson, both 56, who organise a street party on the Leigh road every year, said: "We love organising these events, which are always very successful.
“The whole street gets involved, it isn’t just us – there is a real community spirit.
“So much so that when one of the residents, who lived on his own, died we all helped to organise his funeral.
"Be it a happy or a sad event, we work together.”
