A SPECIAL commemoration service marking the centenary of the Battle of the Somme was a great success.
The Greater Manchester branch of the Royal British Legion held the event at St George’s Church in Tyldesley with veterans breaking with tradition to honour their First World War heroes.
The church was filled to capacity with hundreds in attendance on Sunday July 17 after people turned out to show their support including the newly elected Mayor of Wigan Borough, Cllr Ron Conway.
