PAMPERED pets will be in doggy heaven on bank holiday Monday as Pennington’s Pooch Parade returns by popular demand.

The inaugural parade went down a storm and organisers from the Friends of Pennington Hall Park are determined to build on last year's success by putting on an even bigger and better event.

Held from 11am to 4pm and raising money for the national Prevent Unwanted Pets (PUP) charity, there will be several dog shows, a fully supervised dog agility course, entertainer from Safari Phil and his exotic animals, donkey rides, face painting, arts and crafts stalls, a funfair and music from the Westhoughton Ukulele Band.

Grooming consultations, trims, nail clipping, vet clinics and micro chipping will also be available on site and there will even be a ‘Doggie Deli’ selling home-made delights for your four-legged friends.

Pennington Tea Room volunteer Olivia Stones, 16, of Colliers Close, Leigh, who came up with the idea of the parade with the aim of raising money for animals in need of help and attracting more visitors to Pennington Hall Park, said: "Last year I finished my GCSEs and was volunteering at the café and thought it would be a great idea to raise money and awareness for animals by holding a fun event for the community.

“It was great fun for the community and we at the Friends of Pennington Hall Park want to do it all over again because the people in the area loved last year’s event."

Staff from My Pets Vets on Twist Lane in Leigh will judge dog shows on the day.

The team at PAWS Doggy Day Care on Butts Street will supervise the dog agility course.

There will be food and drink available to buy.
