RESIDENTS of Wigan and Leigh Homes are being encouraged to keep safe by getting their gas appliances checked.

Tenants will be contacted by contractor BHE Services giving a date and time when appliances are due to be serviced.

Poorly maintained gas safety appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning, which can be fatal.

Vicky Bannister, interim chief executive for Wigan and Leigh Homes, said: “It is vital that people make sure their gas appliances are safely checked every year, by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

“We are encouraging tenants to reach out to friends, neighbours and relatives to ensure their appliances are safe and allow our Gas Safe engineers into their property to carry out the checks.”
