AN abusive, controlling thug, who is currently serving a jail sentence for a domestic violence offence, could face further time in prison for a separate attack on a former partner.

Nathan Modlinsky, from Leigh, was described as “jealous” and “toxic” during his relationship with his latest victim from Warrington.

The defendant appeared before Liverpool Crown Court last Friday, February 24, facing one charge of causing bodily harm.

After knowing each other for several years the couple began a relationship in 2018 but the court heard how it soon began to “deteriorate” and was constantly marred by Modlinsky’s ongoing accusations of his partner cheating.

Prosecuting, Ben Berkson said there was a theme of control issues that ran throughout the relationship with his behaviour getting worse whenever the defendant drank.

On November 18, 2020, Modlinsky assaulted his victim outside a shop on Norris Street in Orford.

The court heard how he punched his victim and dragged her to her feet along the road before wrapping his hands around her throat.

Two horrified witnesses saw the violent incident and Cheshire Police were called.

The victim told police how the defendant had demanded that she hold his hand in public or "he would slap her".

Modlinsky joined the court hearing via a video link, as he is serving a sentence for a similar incident where he violently attacked and abused another victim in a relationship that began shortly after this one had ended, in the spring of 2020.

He “punched, kicked and strangled” the victim and in one disturbing incident began “pushing his fingers down her throat” and threatening to kill her.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing bodily harm and was given three years during his sentencing at Bolton Crown Court in October last year.

The brave victim in this recent case provided an emotional statement that was read out to the court, where her family gathered to support her.

It read: “I feel like I live in a daily battle with my mental health.

“My sleep has been massively affected. I have never suffered anything like this.

“I can barely hear in one ear due to injuries I have suffered.

“I feel ugly, there is a scar through my eyebrow.”

The victim proceeded to say how she now struggles with birthdays because they bring back trauma and bad memories.

She added: “Nathan has ruined everything about me. I don’t think I will ever feel normal again.”

The victim now suffers with anxiety due to the appalling treatment she faced.

She concluded: “Nathan has robbed me of my future, he has taken so much from me.”

Aggravating factors that were read out to the court included the vulnerability of the victim as well as the element of strangulation and psychological and physical harm that was caused to the victim.

The case was adjourned due to a pre-sentence report but Modlinsky is likely to face a further custodial sentence on top of his current one.
