TOM Aspinall, a UFC fighter will compete for the UFC Heavyweight World Title.
Aspinall, from Atherton, recently returned from a serious injury to dispatch Polish fighter Marcin Tybura in a commanding victory.
Heavyweight champion Jon Jones was set to fight Stipe Miocic on November 11 at UFC 295, however tore the tendons connecting his pectoral muscle to the bone whilst training late last night.
Jones will be out for around eight months according to UFC chairman Dana White.
As a replacement for the bout, Tom Aspinall has been called up to face Russian Heavyweight Sergei Pavlovich for the interim UFC Heavyweight World Title.
Pavlovich and Aspinall have been touted as being on a collision course for one another for several years now, with the pair widely being considered the most exciting young fighters in the division.
Aspinall’s recent return against Tybura saw him catapulted back into the title conversation with a knockout just over one minute into the first round.
This win came 12 months after Aspinall tore his medial collateral ligament 15 seconds into a bout with American fighter Curtis Blaydes.
In a video announcing the new bout, Dana White said of Aspinall: “This guy is a beast, and is looking to become the first British Heavyweight Champion in UFC history.”
