AN arrest has been made following a manhunt for a group of "armed robbers" who targeted a store in Leigh town centre.

At around 4.30pm on Saturday, February 3, Greater Manchester Police was alerted to reports of an armed robbery on Bradshawgate, Leigh.

Videos circulated on social media after the incident, which showed a group of four smashing the windows with weapons.

Police said that several high-value items were stolen and a "significant amount of criminal damage" was inflicted on the premises, with the group reported to have fled the scene in a black Audi.

The investigation into the incident "continues at pace", police say.

Detective Inspector Rick Castley from GMP Serious Organised Crime Group said: “The arrest will undoubtedly make Greater Manchester that little bit safer and we have, and will continue to, ensure that we take action against this type of brazen criminality.”
