THE Rugby Football League has confirmed it is investigating an incident between a supporter and Leigh Leopards staff at the Totally Wicked Stadium last Friday.

Video footage emerged on social media showing a confrontation involving a supporter and Leigh players and staff in the stands following last Friday’s Super League clash between Saints and the Leopards.

In the video, a verbal altercation can be seen taking place and a plastic bottle being thrown at a spectator’s head.

The Star understands the Match Commissioner will take evidence from the players and staff in relation to the incident.

A RFL spokesman confirmed to the Star that the governing body is looking into the matter.

He said: “We’re aware of the footage and looking into what happened.

“The process is that reports from the match commissioner and ground safety officer will form the basis of any compliance investigation.”

Saints defeated Leigh 12-4 in Friday’s match, which saw Leigh captain John Asiata sin-binned in the first minute after being judged to have made dangerous contact to the leg of Saints’ Sione Mata’utia.

Asiata was handed a Grade A charge but avoided a ban from the Match Review Panel.
