A salon in the centre of Bolton was broken into with more than £1,000 worth of items stolen.

Security at the Market Place Shopping Centre were alerted to a disturbance at Place Hair and Beauty in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Footage captured at the store shows two brazen thieves forcing their way in.

While there the two men in balaclavas made off with five boxes of hair straighteners worth £1,000 and seven shampoo and conditioner sets worth around £150.

A lock has had to be replaced at a cost of £200.

A quote given for the repair of the rest of the damage means the total cost will be more than £2,000.

The Bolton News: The salon was broken into

Owner Abi Quigley said theft was a big issue.

She said: “I have worked here for two years and I have never had anything like this before.

“The staff are upset.

“I think the security got them out, they did not go for the till. They then contacted the police.

“They were wearing balaclavas so they are looking to see if they can identify them.

“I am concerned now about Bolton town centre.

“If they can get away with it then it will keep happening.”

GMP have been approached for a comment.

Shop workers in the centre of Bolton have frequently complained about thefts.

Last month police made multiple arrests in relation to shoplifting in the centre of Bolton.

A multitude of officers were sent to the town centre to support security staff and also to identify theft hotspots.

On that occasion four people were charged.

Last year police revealed a new neighbourhood team was working to tackle crimes across Bolton.

As part of this there were increased patrols and shops were given advice on how to deter thefts.

Sergeant David Keir, from GMP’s Bolton district, said at the time: “Our operation benefits Bolton two-fold: their new neighbourhood officers quickly acquire new skills, while the problems of shoplifting and other crimes which involve taking without consent - theft, robberies and burglaries - are all directly tackled as a result of the work being done."
