There are a few bumps and bruises, that goes with the territory of playing a team of the calibre of Wigan.

I can’t fault the effort. Obviously we lost 32-0 but I can’t fault their endeavour. We just need more composure.

It’s a bit like when we played Salford really. We put pressure on the Wigan line but failed to get across it. That was probably the only disappointment from the day.

We went a little too kick crazy, going for a repeat set with half the tackle count still to play.

We wanted to play with the width of the field and I felt that we did that at times, especially with those sustained periods on their line.

If the players repeat that effort, give a bit more composure in their half and get a cutting edge, the signs look good for the season.

You can’t fail to be impressed by Wigan, especially their defence and the speed of their play-the-ball. They controlled the pace of their game.

That is one of the targets we’ve said our players have to learn from, learn from play-the-ball situations and how not to waste momentum when we’ve got it.

We did create some chances. Just before half time we put two or three passes out towards the left hand side.

I actually thought they were the correct pass even though they went to ground. We just needed another body in there to catch it.

There was certainly one incident where a score could have been available to us. We’ll look for that cutting edge but we won’t face a defence as good as this next week or in the weeks to come.

I learned a lot about the players’ character. I’ve learned a bit more about people like Jamie Durbin and Brett Longstaff. I know a lot about the players already but it would have been nice to have got a score or two.
