EAST put up a great performance with the forwards being led by Dom Murfin, who set the platform for Josh Woods and his backs to repeatedly cut the Leyland defence open to score some quality tries.

Although Leyland continually pressed their efforts where in vain as the East defence stood firm.

Tries from Josh Woods, five, James Parkinson, Daniel Melling and Charlie Maxted.

Woods, five goals.

IN the final game before the summer break East showed dominance in an impressive display.

The game opened up with both teams tested each other in the middle of the field.

East's forward pack proved too much to handle making great yards and drawing men in to allow Ryan Barnes to open the scoring.

In both attack and defence East outclassed Thatto leaving it 0-18 at the half.

In the second half East started where they left off opening the scoring early on with a clever interception by Taylor Pemberton backed up well by Sam Penkywicz allowing him to score.

Overall a fantastic team performance with outstanding performances from all involved.

Tries from Ryan Barnes, four, Sam Penkywicz, Liam Ogden and Zak Earnshaw.

LEIGH East played Golborne in a hard-fought game with the away side pipping us 28-10 with the score line not reflecting the game.

In first half Leigh East got off to our slow start which allowed Golborne to take the lead but East responded by hitting straight back with man of the match Ben Penk crossing the line.

The second half was much the same as the first with Golborne crossing the line twice.

But Leigh East rallied along with Tyler Caldwell gathering his own kick to score.

Leigh East tried hard to get back level but could not hold on with Golborne scoring the decisive try.

THE scoreline saw a massive improvement in East’s defence in a game which turned into a forwards' battle down the middle.

Callum Dean scored East's only try in the second half breaking from the half way line and finishing in the corner.

Some very good defence from Cai Obrian and Darcy Nelson backed up with good running onto the ball kept East in the game up until the end.

Every player was awarded man-of-the-match for their marked improvement.
