Atherton Colls 4 Penistone Church 0
FOLLOWING a midweek penalty exit from the FA Cup against Radcliffe Borough, Atherton Collieries dusted themselves down to defeat Penistone Church in the FA Vase.
The woodwork saved Penistone as captain Andrew Heald came close to handing Colls the lead. But they deservedly went ahead on 29 minutes when Matt Boland drilled a corner into the Penistone box for Brad Cooke to bullet home a header.
Four minutes later Atherton were two up when Matt Grimshaw powered in another Boland corner.
Colls went 3-0 ahead when the ball was cleverly threaded through to Mark Battersby, who rounded the keeper with ease.
Boland bagged the final goal, chipping the ball over the keeper from a tight angle.
The win sets up another home tie, against AFC Liverpool on Saturday, October 4.
Colls visit Chadderton on Saturday (3pm).
