Widnes 2 Atherton LR 3

LR made it two wins on the bounce with this hard-earned success at Widnes' Select Security Stadium.

In the cavernous confines of a ground more accustomed to hosting Widnes Vikings Super League games, LR rode out early pressure before snatching the lead, Mark Adams tapping home after Widnes keeper Rob Cork failed to deal with Joe Fielding's cross.

However the home side were back on terms by the break as Graham Molloy scored.

LR opened up a two goal cushion on the artificial surface with two early goals in the second half.

Firstly Jon Stephenson chased down a long goal kick, harried possession off the defender and fired home, then the big striker was first to a delightful through ball, beating two men and slotting home.

LR were pegged back when the veteran Molloy headed home his second but the visitors saw out the remainder of the game in relative comfort to secure another fine win.

This Saturday the team host Irlam, 3pm kick off, at Crilly Park.
