Siddal 30 Leigh Miners Rangers 28

LEIGH Miners Rangers’ play-offs campaign came to an end when they suffered a narrow defeat to Siddal on Saturday.

With Miners eventually finishing sixth in the league standings it was the demanding double of sudden-death rugby at hostile venues if they were to make progress in the end-of-season finale.

As it proved, they would fall at the first hurdle by the slimmest of margins.

The visitors started brightly and opened up a 10-point lead inside 15 minutes through Jonny Youds and Scott Travis.

However, the hosts fought back through Tom Garratt, Shaun Garrod and Gareth Blackburn to lead at the break.

The sides continued to trade tries, with Darryl Kay, Adam Thomason and Michael O’Boyle crossing for Miners, but it was too little for the Leigh side.
