FORMER BMX professional rider and British Cycling Go-ride coach, Dylan Clayton was the guest speaker at Astley and Tyldesley Cycling Club’s annual cycle speedway presentation afternoon.

Around 80 members, family and friends attended the event at the Astley and Tyldesley Miners’ Welfare Club at the club’s Gin Pit base last Sunday, when the Black and Greens celebrated another successful year on the track, illustrated by the array of trophies, medals and certificates presented to individuals and teams.

Among the honours the A&T club scooped were the Manchester League Division Two and Northern League Division Three titles.

Four special awards were presented to Kieran Fallon (Rory Blackwell Cup for the best newcomer), Emily Burgess (North West Trophies Cup for best novice), Joe Quarmby (most improved rider) and John White (J Fisher & Sons young rider of the year).

Twenty-six volunteers received gifts while the Ron Hack Memorial Cup for the volunteer of the year was awarded to Janine Paine.

Membership has expanded to 85 and among the latest successes added to the Gin Pit roll of honour are John White, who won the British Championship Under-eights Grand Prix, Emily Burgess, who reached the final of the British Championship under-10s category and the club’s under-10s team, who were runners-up.
