HEATON Moor who are close to the relegation zone in the North Lancs and Cumbria Division, were desperate to make an impact on their visit to Leigh.

They started well, but once the Hand Lane men clicked into gear they motored to a comfortable 44-0 victory.

Rob Drake got the scoring show on the road with a penalty then evaded tackles to chalk up another five points.

Moor were now visibly weakening and quickly conceded another seven points when Jimmy Wilkinson ran round a floundering defence to cross the line.

With the Leigh forwards, led by skipper David Penn, in command, it was no surprise when Paul Hampson forced his way over as Leigh took a 20-0 lead into half-time.

Leigh claimed the bonus try early in the second half when the outstanding Alex Middleton Adams touched down after five minutes of continuous pressure.

Leigh were now in their comfort zone enabling the training ground routines to be implemented with Heaton Moor having to put in tackle after tackle to keep them at bay.

Fifteen minutes into the second period Tom Baker crashed over for a converted try.

It was now all Leigh with scrum- half Dave Wood using an abundance of possession to set the talented Leigh backs loose.

The final try came when Sean McDonald crossed for his first score in Leigh colours.

Heaton Moor stuck manfully to their task, despite losing key players to injury, but had no answer to the dominance of a Leigh side for who Domenic Yarwood and a much- improved Keiron Duffy caught the eye
