LEIGH CENTURIONS 64

LONDON BRONCOS 12

LEIGH Centurions ran in 11 tries and levelled a record for consecutive wins on a very good night for the club.

Last season the side set a new level of consistency with 16 straight wins and the team have equalled that record following this comprehensive victory that sees them progress in the Challenge Cup.

The Centurions led from the eighth minute courtesy of a try from Johnny Pownall and they followed this with three tries in five minutes.

Sam Barlow started the points glut after Jamie Acton had charged close and the former Halifax man initiated the move that led to the next try with a one handed offload on halfway.

Ridyard supported and Ryan Brierley followed up to go under the posts.

Leigh's added another score on 21 minutes when Kurt Haggerty didn't have to break stride to collect and go over by the side of the posts.

The classy hosts cut loose again on the right through McNally who then teed up a landmark score for Brierley – his 100th try for the club on his 95th appearance.

There was still more to come from the Centurions before half-time as Oliver Wilkes combined to put Sam Hopkins over for a try and Ridyard hit his sixth goal to ensure a 36-0 half-time lead.

The Broncos fired out of the blocks quickly in the second half and Italian international Ray Nasso scored a try.

Normal service resumed for the Centurions on 50 minutes.

Tom Armstrong, Bob Beswick, Liam Kay all touched down to give Leigh the advantage

Better was to come on the hour mark for Leigh when Hopkins and Brierley combined and McNally turned try scorer. The Broncos again rallied and claimed a second try.

With the ball bouncing all over the place, Australian Daniel Harrison emerged from a melee of players to collect and go over for the Broncos second consolation try.

Michael Platt led a spirited chase back to deny Naiqama and Illies Macani before the memorable moment of the game. Brierley ran on the last play and found Fuifui Moimoi who stormed over the line for his first try in Leigh colours.

This prompted the big prop to join the fans in the North Stand and he ran up the central steps to lap up their applause before heading back to the substitutes bench. Ridyard wrapped up a highly impressive night for the Centurions with his 10th goal of the game and Leigh were winners by a huge margin.
