LEIGH revved up for a promotion play-off against Liverpool St Helens by bringing the regular season to a close with a 14-try 90-7 demolition of Upper Eden.

The Hand Lane men scored seven tries in each half, 10 of which were converted by the boot of Rob Drake.

Skipper Iain Wood crossed the line to open the scoring in only the second minute before further tries from Olly Shepherd, Sean McDonald and Ryan McKinstry and a hat-trick from full-back Jimmy Wilkinson.

With second place in the North Lancs/Cumbria league already assured before the match, Leigh took the chance to give squad members some game time and they all made contributions, with McDonald, Drake and Keiron Duffy all getting on the scoresheet.

The scoring momentum continued in the second half as Shepherd scampered over after 50 seconds.

The powerful Leigh pack provided quality ball, constantly breaking the game line to give Leigh's speedy three-quarters all the time in the world to rack up another six tries.

Elliot Ryan bagged a brace, both McKinstry and McDonald scored their second tries of the game, while Dave Woods, Drake and Duffy all added to Leigh's score before the opposition ran in a consolation try.

Leigh will be looking for a similar performance when they host South/Lancs Cheshire runners-up Liverpool on Saturday, with the winners promoted to North West One.

The home side go into the game with a slightly better record over the league season, having won 24 and lost just two of their 26 matches, compared to Liverpool's record of 22 wins and four defeats.
