ASTLEY and Tyldesley’s senior side claimed their first ever Division One victory at Northumbria as the club scooped a hat-trick of wins in the Northern League fixture.

Northumbria’s veteran rider Gavin Parr scored a 20-point maximum but A&T showed better strength in depth as they claimed a 94-83 win in the top tier match.

The visitors went into the interval 47-41 up after claiming four heat wins to Northumbria’s two.

And a one-two to Radek Handke and Ciaran Collins in heat 12 proved decisive as Astley and Tyldesley opened up a 12-point lead that they were able to hold on to.

Handke was A&T’s best rider, only losing twice, both times to Parr.

A&T cruised to much more comfortable victories in the other two races, winning the Division Two match 90-56 and the Division Three encounter 47-29.

Both sides maintained their 100 per cent records to stay top of their respective divisions.

Gareth Paine and Max Evans – despite a broken thumb – both raced unbeaten, with Jon Quarmby losing just once and eight-year-old John White taking a creditable 14 points.

Special mention goes to eight-year-old John White, who turned in a great score against much older opposition.

White had a busy weekend, also impressing for Team Green in the Division Three tie and claiming a perfect victory in the fourth regional round of the British Youth and Junior League at Gin Pit on Saturday.

The youngster won all four heats and the A final to earn his fourth straight win in the under-10s competition, while Pollitt repeated that feat in the u17s race.

In the team event, A&T finished in second behind Sheffield.
