LEIGH moved up three places to seventh in the Liverpool Competition following an entertaining three-wicket victory at home to Southport and Birkdale.

The visitors were bowled out for 235 in 52.1 overs before Leigh passed that target inside 47 overs.

Lancashire second-team batsman Josh Bohannon made 82 for Southport before being caught off the bowling of Richard Dempter, who took 4-72 for Leigh, while James McCombie hit 51 not out.

Matthew Hibbert fired 76 from 88 bowls to set the tone of the Leigh reply before captain Matt McKiernan (38 from 27) and Adam Shallcross (45 not out from 50) continued the run rate to bring them home.

Leigh were no match for Ribblesdale League side Clitheroe in the Lancashire Knockout, losing by 148 runs. Janaka Guneratne hit 128 in Clitheroe's 274-4 before Leigh were dismissed for 126.
