LEIGH East showed great spirit at home to fellow play-off hopefuls Underbank Rangers after twice battling from behind to clinch a draw in the final game of the regular season.

The visitors from Huddersfield stormed into a 16-0 lead but were pegged back five minutes before the break when Martin Roden piled over and Adam Holland made the conversion.

Tries at the start of the second half from Jacob Sinclair and Holland, who converted them both, put East into an 18-16 lead.

But Underhill wrestled back control of the game with a penalty and converted try and went into the final five minutes of the game with a six-point advantage.

Sinclair wriggled his way over out on the right touchline, however, and Holland showed nerves of steel to kick the goal from just in front of the clubhouse, 23 metres out, to level the match at 24-24.

East were already guaranteed a third-place finish in the NCL Division Two, while the point left Underbank in fifth.

Both sides now go into the play-offs for a place in the grand final, with East hosting Dewsbury Celtic on October 17.

Elsewhere, the club's A team secured promotion from Division Three of the North West Men's League after being granted a walkover in their final match of the season when Burtonwood were unable to raise a team.

There were also good wins for the Under-10s at Salford City Roosters and the U7s at home to Thatto Heath.
