TYLDESLEY'S senior men's side won two of their final three fixtures to finish second in Division Five of the British Water Polo League.

They played three matches at Walsall last weekend, beating Basildon 14-5 and Leeds 19-10 either side of an 11-8 defeat against unbeaten champions Portobello.

The victories left the Pelican Centre-based side with eight points from six games, level on points with Invicta Marlins and Leeds but with a better points difference.

Tyldesley cruised to victory in their first match against Basildon, with their opponents scoring three of their five goals in the final quarter after they let their foot off the gas. Adam Toone and Addison Brown both scored hat-tricks, while John Fletcher, Tyler Turner, Lucas McNulty and Oliver Rhodes scoring two each.

Portobello, who were a Division One side until recently, underlined their title credentials with a three-goal victory over Tyldesley.

They opened up a 4-2 lead after the first quarter and maintained that advantage throughout the match before edging the final period by 3-2 to seal the win.

Brown was again the star man in front of goal for Tyldesley, scoring four times.

Tyldesley went to town in the final match to take their goal tally for the weekend to 41.

Brown and Toone added another five goals each, while Lucas McNulty found the net four times.
