LEIGH East welcomed St Judes to Ledgard Avenue on a sweltering afternoon and played their get out of jail card to get the two points with a 20-16 win.
East scored two tries in the first quarter, both from experienced hooker Martin Roden.
For the second 20 minutes East were their own worst enemies which let Judes back into the game.
First up Ihaka Watene threw an interception on 24 minutes for Gavin Rodden to go in under the posts, before Joey Bradey went in straight from a drop out to level the scores to take Judes two points up at half time.
Judes played the second half with stop start tactics to spoil.
A pair of Collier penalties put Judes six points clear with a quarter to play.
Sam Grainey threw East a lifeline on 70 minutes to bring the game back to within two points before Adam Holland jinked through five minutes from time.
