AUSSIE playmaker Josh Drinkwater isn’t flying halfway round the world to twiddle his thumbs.

But as a sign of intent they won’t be shifted easily, Ben Reynolds and Martyn Ridyard laid down the challenge to Leigh’s Aussie in-comer in a runaway Centurions victory.

Both half backs grabbed tries and Ridyard booted eight goals as the Kingstone Press Championship leaders found the extra gear demanded by coach Neil Jukes.

Leigh scored 10 tries to extend their lead at the summit following London Broncos’ defeat to Featherstone, nine of them from different scorers.

“I think the penny is starting to drop,” said happy Jukes as the visitors scored 50 unanswered points after Danny Grimshaw’s 14th minute equalising try. “We ticked every box.”

Leigh were ruthless against opponents who impressed at Leigh Sports Village earlier in the year and received fulsome praise from Warrington coach, Tony Smith, after the teams’ recent Challenge Cup tie at Bower Fold.

And the visitors had declared by the time Oldham added two late tries to prevent an even more one-sided looking score line.

Drinkwater will certainly be grateful to play for a winning team after his previous spell in England with London Broncos.

But the acid test for Jukes and his squad will again come in the Middle Eights. Already eight points clear of fifth placed Batley, it won’t be long before the formalities of a confirmed top four Championship finish are realised.

Leigh’s latest success was their 11th in 12 unbeaten games and saw them score 40 points or more for a seventh time in 2016. Little wonder Jukes was pleased.

Reni Maitua began the procession after a tight opening 10 minutes and added his second seven minutes after the interval.

But it was a three-try burst just before the break that blasted the game apart. Leading only 12-6, Leigh executed possession superbly through Ridyard, Liam Kay-on his 100th career appearance-and Liam Hood.

There was no way back for Oldham and Leigh, giving a debut off the back for on loan forward, Brad Fash, continued to turn the screw.

Tom Armstrong, Reynolds, Jamie Acton and Dayne Weston crossed the home line for touch downs goaled by Ridyard before Oldham’s late rally.

Next up for Leigh is Swinton Lions-the second of four successive away games-and few sides will relish facing the Centurions in this kind of mood.
